A6 CEOs meet in Vienna for first Steering Board 2025
The recent A6 Steering Board meeting on March 19th at Austro Control Headquarters in Vienna focused on key strategic developments in Air Traffic Management (ATM), addressing crucial topics such as the New Service Delivery Model, SESAR post-2027 strategy, organizational enhancements and industry alignment.
Working towards a New Service Delivery Model for ATM
One of the main topics, that was discussed during the meeting was a new service delivery model for ATM in Europe, focussing on the next steps towards a modern, service-oriented, modular, and cloud-based architecture as the foundation for a new ATM service delivery approach.
“I strongly believe that continuous support from the A6 Steering Board, along with broader stakeholder engagement, remains essential on our path to a new service delivery model. Focussing on key aspects such as system certification, agile ways of working, funding strategies, and securing commercial agreements with suppliers”, said Philipp Piber, Chairman of the A6 Steering Board.
Also on the agenda: SESAR Post-2027 Strategy. The European ATM sector stands at a critical juncture, where technological innovation is vital for maintaining EU leadership and competitiveness. ATM has been recognized as critical infrastructure, with its importance for security and defence being widely acknowledged at the European level. Standardization bottlenecks, industry support for EU funding, and SESAR’s integration within the SES2+ regulation were key discussion points. A well-coordinated approach from research to deployment was identified as crucial to accelerating innovation adoption.
Industry Alignment as crucial factor for achieving synergies
Efforts to streamline A6 coordination with various stakeholders were reviewed, ensuring efficient collaboration. A strong emphasis was placed on aligning SESAR-focused activities of A6 with CANSO’s broader ATM industry initiatives to avoid overlaps and enhance synergy.
The discussions reaffirm the commitment of the A6 Alliance to advancing ATM technologies, strengthening industry collaboration, and driving innovation to meet future operational and performance needs.
