Shaping the Future of ATM: A6 Steering Board Meets at Airspace World in Lisbon
During this year’s Airspace World in Lisbon, the A6 Steering Board convened for its second meeting of 2025, bringing together CEOs of Europe’s major ANSPs continuing to drive forward the modernisation of Air Traffic Management (ATM). The meeting highlighted the urgency of coordinated action and underlined the essential role of political and financial commitment to secure Europe’s digital ATM future.
The A6 Steering Board recognised that important progress has already been made, but also stressed that continued effort and commitment from all stakeholders involved is essential. The need for a swift transition towards modular, service-oriented, and cloud-based architectures was emphasised during the meeting.
ATM was again highlighted as critical infrastructure – important not just for mobility, but also for Europe’s climate goals and defence readiness. The discussion reiterated the necessity for a robust and sustained EU commitment through the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034) and a clear focus on SESAR and ATM innovation.
Following the Steering Board meeting, a high-level reception took place welcoming senior representatives from key European institutions. This informal setting allowed for open and productive discussions about the future of ATM in Europe, including how to align strategies, secure funding, and work more closely together. As the digital transformation of ATM enters a critical phase, such alignment and engagement across stakeholders is more important than ever. The A6 Alliance remains committed to leading this journey together.
