Strategic priorities for European Air Traffic Management
Key strategic priorities for European Air Traffic Management discussed at highlevel meetings in Brussels.
Philipp Piber (Chair A6 Alliance), Arndt Schoenemann (Chair CANSO EC3), and Enrique Maurer (Chair EUROCONTROL Network Management Board) met with Filip Cornelis (Director for Aviation DG MOVE), Andreas Boschen (Executive Director SESAR Joint Undertaking) as well as with EUROCONTROL Director General Raul Medina and EASA Director General Florian Guillermet, to exchange views on key strategic priorities for European Air Traffic Management.
A central focus of the discussions was the A6 approach to Common Project 2 (CP2) and the New Service Delivery Model (NSDM) initiative, seen as critical enablers for delivering an even more integrated and efficient European ATM system. The importance of modern, open, and cloud-based system architectures was highlighted as a foundation for increased flexibility, scalability, and innovation.
The meetings also underlined the importance of evolving towards more agile and collaborative ways of working. This transformation requires an enabling regulatory framework, with EASA playing a key role in adapting system certification approaches to keep pace with technological innovation.
These elements are key components of the ATM Master Plan, which ANSPs fully support. CP2 was recognised as a crucial instrument to drive the implementation of cross-European, interoperable solutions.
Looking ahead, the exchanges also addressed the future of SESAR, stressing the need to maintain momentum in research, development, and deployment, while ensuring strong alignment between institutional stakeholders and operational actors. Overall, the meetings reaffirmed a shared commitment to accelerate the transformation of Europe’s ATM system through close cooperation, innovation, and coordinated implementation.
